This Expert Group Meeting was arranged by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Africa, and was held in Bangkok on 20-12 March 2013.
Participants came mainly from research institutions, international organisations and NGOs from countries across Asia, from Turkmenistan to Mynamar. The aim of the meeting was to raise awareness of the importance of the resource nexus in the Asia-Pacific region, and to start to develop ways of thinking about the nexus and of applying these ideas to policy making.
I gave a presentation summarising the main findings of the project that I was involved in last year at the Transatlantic Academy in Washington DC, as well as highlighting the resource nexus threats posed by the overuse of nitrogen fertilizers in countries such as China and India.
